Goosewinged for Howakil Island

Very light south-easterly. Wind instrument says we have 1 to 4 knots apparent wind. Poled out theÿ#2ÿgenoa and floating along at 4 to 5 knots on a flat sea. It’s pretty relaxing. We’ve decided to anchor at Howakil Island tonight, and Port Smythe tomorrow night. Leaves us about 4 hours sailing today, about 5 tomorrow and another 5 on Tuesday morning.

DAY 3: Red Sea near 3 Fathom Bank

Motored most of yesterday except for about 6 hours in the afternoon. Made 159 miles for the 24 hours, courtesy of north setting current. Pea soup seems to have abated and we have beautiful deep blue water. Wind now easterly at 10 knots, will put more sail up soon.

Pea soup with croutons

Just enough wind now to sail, so we’ve put everything up. Making 5.5 to 6 knots in 8 to 10 knots on the beam. Took the opportunity to check engine raw water cooling inlet strainer. Almost completely clogged with organic matter from the green pea soup we’ve had for most of the Red Sea so far.
